Hello everyone, and welcome to the people's blog! This is my first blog ever, so PLEASE, feel free to make comments on what i post!
I want to begin by saying that ever since my senior year, in high school, i have become a pop culture fanatic of some sorts. almost every day, i go on youtube (and admit it, you do too) to see the latest person making a fool of themself either in television, film, music, or everyday life. But the only other thing that can take me away from that is the movies. anytime something comes out with a major hype, i find a way to see it opening day. Since classes on the first week back to school got cancelled, I Hit the Theaters, & caught 2 newly released films, the first of which was "Smokin' Aces" W/ Jeremy Piven, Common & Others. Here's a quick clip for those of you who havent seen it yet:
My Review: It's not the movie of the year, but it's a great start to the movie year.
However, this isnt the main topic of this post (I just wanted to tell you that if you like a mix of drama, comedy, suspense, & the plot of several people competing to assassinate one man, then see this film!) The main subject of this post is the second film i watched.
I Figured that since my cousins were finishing up midterms, i'd take them to see something. We ended up going to see Epic Movie, the film that spoofed some of the biggest films in 2006.
I Figured since it was made by the 2/6 writers of scary movie, it" would" be pretty good. That was until we got into the near full theater. Let me put it like this, I thought i was in elementary school again. at least the other half was made up of high school kids. Nothing but ranting & raving, candy flying, cellphone calls, and pointers aimed at other peoples faces. And this was only the 20 minutes we were waiting for the film to start. The film was "meh", i caught the references to such films as The Chronicles of Narnia, & Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, & others, but they felt weak & quickly thought up of (I Got a Laugh or two out of the American Pie Joke), but everyone went wild for it. I dont know what it was, but i ask you, Are filmmakers dumbing down comedy to get a cheap pop?
Going back to Elementary school, i remember spring of 6th grade, when the original Scary Movie was released. upon, seeing the film, i was rolling down the aisle with laughter. so why is it that about 6 years later i didnt find it funny anymore? is it because unlike Scary Movie which was rated R, this was rated pg-13, or was it because the film felt mashed up too soon? i dont know the answer, but i do know that this was only one film, and its gonna take a lot more than one horrible (IMO) film in order to get me off of satirical humor. Thanks for ur time, If youve seen the movie, or even if you take a liking to satirical humor, please leave your thoughts

When I first saw the commercial for Epic Movie, I promptly rolled my eyes and made a disparaging comment. My guess is that they rushed to make a movie so they could make some money. Unfortunately, these movies do make money regardless of the reviews. Does a bad review help you decide what movie you're going to see? In the case of Epic Movie, I assume two things: 1.) anyone who would go see the movie doesn't pay much attention to reviews 2.) even if they did pay attention, they wouldn't care because of the type of movie it is.
When I went to see Not Another Teen Movie many years ago, the atmosphere was much the same. I have no patience in movie theatres. The only movie that I've ever seen and didn't mind the fact that people were talking and laughing and answering cell phones was "Freddy Vs. Jason"...I knew what I was getting into the minute I decided on seeing it anyway.
I wonder if movies dumb us down or if we should just be offended that producers think we're so dumb...then again, I suppose we are.
One movie that I saw recently and high recommend is "Children of Men." I also recommend that if you like YouTube, you check out Revver.com. I have a few friends that work for the company and they have some excellent videos and such. Plus, unlike YouTube, the artists share in 50% of the profits from their work. An excellent idea, if you ask me.
As for urban sprinting...maybe I'll try it next time I'm in the mall. I could use a new black cowboy hat....
